Ports and Marine Project Manager

Job Description: WSP is initiating a search for a Ports and Marine Project Manager with the potential to work out of any of our Maritime offices within the locations listed above. The successful candidate will be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be part of a growing organization that meets clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. Our Maritime group comprises highly motivated analysts, planners, and maritime civil and structural engineers working in several key locations across the U.S. and internationally.
Major clients include port authorities, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, terminal operators, contractors, private entities, and municipalities.
WSP has a 90‑year history of leading waterfront design for the U.S. Navy and worldwide. Our Maritime group is dynamic and energetic, with a strong work ethic and a collaborative culture. You would be joining the largest and best waterfront/marine design group in the country. Projects are diverse in nature, challenging, and interesting. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for maritime projects or groups of smaller capital projects, including the management of task leaders, schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
You will participate in the formulation and presentation of technical concepts during proposal development, the design phase, and client presentations. In addition, you will mentor and provide technical guidance to junior staff and help with hiring and evaluation of new team members.

- Supervise the work of staff engineers and task leads; perform calculations, prepare drawings, and technical specifications.
- Prepare technical studies and reports; guide and review staff engineer work.
- Oversee calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
- Perform quality assurance checks and manage projects, tasks, and staff for marine facility projects—including cargo terminals (container, bulk, break‑bulk), federal facilities (home porting piers and shipyards), and clients such as port authorities, DoD, private terminals, and public agencies.
- Coordinate multi‑discipline internal and external teams (civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, architecture).
- Prepare alternative analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
- Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
- Engage in business development, marketing, and client relationship management; prepare technical proposals, presentations, negotiations, and staff estimates.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 7+ years of relevant post‑education engineering experience, including prior marine, port, and coastal design experience.
- Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
- Familiarity with maritime codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense criteria (UFC, UFGC).
- Proficiency in supervising staff in state‑of‑the‑art computer programs.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Flexibility to accommodate various schedules, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt quickly in a high‑pressure work environment.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card, which requires a TSA background check.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Experience with design and management of Port Authority, NAVY, or Coast Guard projects.
