Overview
Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower at Black & Veatch. This role focuses on leading, designing, and managing new and upgraded hydropower projects.
Opportunity DetailsIn this role you will have the opportunity to lead, design, and manage new and upgraded projects on hydropower systems including:
- Hydro turbines
- Dam and water conveyance, including radial gates and large valves
- Generator cooling systems
- Raw water systems
- Fire protection systems
- Turbine and generator bearings
- Compressed air systems
- Bearing oil systems
You may also perform dam safety inspections and design improvements to HVAC systems, spillway gates and hoists, instream flow release, and low-level outlets.
Key ResponsibilitiesBlack & Veatch has delivered hydropower solutions worldwide for more than 40 years, with a track record of nearly 500 projects and more than 50,000 megawatts in hydropower design. We deliver studies and valuations, optimize operations, and provide full design services and construction support for facilities across a range of capacities. We aim to achieve maximum return on infrastructure investments and pursue clean, green power alternatives.
- Lead and manage hydropower projects from concept through design and construction.
- Provide front-end studies and project management support.
- Deliver full design services and construction support to ensure operating efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of mechanical or systems engineering experience in power generating facilities or related fields
- Experience managing projects and/or programs in a utility power plant setting
- Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped storage hydroelectric generation stations
- Client-facing experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries
Certifications
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support EOR requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, where required
- Office environment with potential site visits requiring crouching, grasping, and walking for extended periods
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, performance, and assignments
