Position Concept
  • Engineers in Asset Management work with grid owners and operators (generation, transmission, substation, distribution) to ensure the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of power generation and delivery systems.
  • This role involves providing technical leadership and supervising Technicians/Maintenance Specialists, Engineers, and Analysts.
  • The Engineer, Asset Management leads reliability teams, supports capital projects, and understands how assets in the modern electric grid are designed to perform and has the skills and knowledge to develop systems/analytics to detect reliability and performance failures proactively.
  • The Engineer, Asset Management utilizes this knowledge to develop plans to proactively mitigate failures and maintain performance including operational limits, capital investment, maintenance outages, spares and other mitigation.
  • The Engineer, Asset Management also responds to outages, oversees major maintenance, and provides technical guidance on electrical engineering and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include working with generators, power plant controllers, motors, inverters, switch gear, transformers, batteries, and emergency generators, while ensuring compliance with NERC and OATT standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead engineer(s)/technician(s)/Analysts(s) to augment plant technical staff and support technical needs in the areas of electrical system, equipment, and integrity. This includes providing guidance and supervision to the NERC Compliance program as well as establishing and maintaining appropriate level of contract resources necessary to meet varying electrical Client requirements necessary to support capital project and O&M work assignments. (20%)
  • The Asset Management-Electrical System Reliability Engineer will develop and utilize systems, calculations, database, models to define, inventory and describe the expected performance and function of grid systems and assets. Define the potential failures of systems and assets and the impact of the failure (Criticality) to the expected performance (safety, compliance, reliability, cost and function).
  • Develop the optimal plan for the proactive detection of the initiation of failure, tracking of the progression of failure, establish and measure standardized and objective description of system and asset health and risk. (10%)
  • The Asset Management‑Electrical System Reliability Engineer will develop alternatives for proactive mitigation of system and asset failures, rank alternative mitigations and provide justification and recommendations for mitigation. Provide consultation and guidance for Outage & Project Management (OPM) and other department personnel in technical matters as related to equipment/system design, materials and operating characteristics for existing and new equipment procurement and installation.

  • The Asset Management‑Electrical System Reliability Engineer will lead Asset Management Reliability Teams and projects to establish sustainable systems and processes supporting duties of this position and the client management Program. Provide technical support of work mitigating failure including short and long term maintenance and projects, operations and maintenance. (10%)
  • Advise and assist Outage & Project Management (OPM) personnel in developing engineering specifications, Products of work and contracts, capital projects, major equipment contracts, project schedules, cost estimates, and project justifications. (10%)
