Storm Duty RequirementsResponding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company’s rules and procedures.
Position ConceptProvide technical support for the engineering, design, planning, operation, documentation, and maintenance of all revenue metering equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Work with the Senior Meter Engineer to ensure existing and planned revenue metering systems are compliant with Florida Service Commission Rules and Regulations through:
- Random Sample Test and evaluation
- Periodic Test and evaluation
- Acceptance Test of new metering equipment
- Obsolete meter elimination
- Perform ongoing meter failure analysis to determine future meter needs and plan for conversion to an Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI).
- Support the Senior Engineer and Manager with issues related to the Smart Meter (AMI) initiative such as Opt-Out, Meter Data Management (MDM) system, integration of MDM with CIS and OMS, regulatory and customer concerns.
- Provide technical support and solutions to Tampa Electric Company customers on all issues concerning revenue metering and sub-metering.
- Work with the Senior Engineer and/or Manager of Meter Operations to ensure compliance with NERC standards by ensuring evidence is up-to-date and updating Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets as needed.
- Support the Senior Engineer with metering standards and specifications as the company moves to AMI and the metering of the company’s renewable energy programs by reviewing work requests and interconnection agreements for compliance with applicable Tampa Electric Company Retail Tariffs and Standard Electrical System Requirements.
- Serve as backup to the Senior Engineer, Meter Operations by assisting and documenting testing and evaluation of new equipment and day-to-day activities.
- Education:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college. - Licenses/Certifications:
Preferred:
To have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam or pass the exam within one year of employment. - Direct

Minimum of six months of direct work experience performing the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Performs routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks; receives close supervision on new aspects of non-routine assignments; using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer; may have minor responsibility for training, orientation or assigning of work to other employees; may schedule/coordinate projects with supervision and review;
prepare engineering analyses, write specifications and reports as directed.
- Required:
Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Power Point; data gathering and research; some basic programming in Excel. - Preferred:
Metering standards and specifications; NERC standards related to metering; use of a spectrum analyzer.
