Our client is a fast-growing engineering and systems integration firm delivering turnkey automation and controls solutions across automotive, manufacturing, energy, and life sciences industries. We combine mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to design, build, and deliver complete automation systems — from concept through commissioning.
The RoleWe’re seeking a Project Manager & Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of large-scale, custom automation projects — from RFQ to installation. You’ll bridge the gap between design and delivery, leading project execution, guiding design efforts, and supporting customer relationships across North America.
What You’ll Do Mechanical Design & Engineering- Lead design of custom automation equipment, tooling, and mechanical assemblies.
- Develop 3D layouts, models, and detailed fabrication drawings.
- Review customer specs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Collaborate with controls, electrical, and software teams for seamless system integration.
- Manage projects from concept to buy-off — budgets, timelines, and quality.
- Interface with clients for scope alignment, design reviews, and progress updates.
- Oversee fabrication, assembly, FAT/SAT, and site installation.
- Coordinate internal teams and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery.
- Prepare cost estimates, BOMs, and vendor RFQs.
- Support proposal and quoting processes for mechanical scopes.
- Manage supplier relationships and technical documentation.
- Mentor junior engineers and guide design teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and process development.
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (required)
- PMP certification or equivalent project management experience
- 10+ years of hands‑on experience in custom machine building
- Strong background in automotive automation (VW, BMW, GM, etc. preferred)
- Skilled in Solid Works, AutoCAD, or Siemens NX for design
- Proficient in MS Project, Click Up, , or similar tools
- Strong communication and leadership skills — able to balance detail with big‑picture thinking
- Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple disciplines
