Systems Engineer, Aerospace / Aviation / Avionics
Applied Systems Engineering (ASEI), a Falcata Company, is an industry leader in GPS/INS engineering, munition design, analysis, integration, and testing. To support our growing organization, we are seeking a highly organized, goal-oriented G&C engineer for either our Niceville, FL or Tucson, AZ location. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and maintenance of complex defense systems.
The position requires a strong background in systems engineering, a keen understanding of defense industry standards, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer to build and lead a missile M&S team. You will manage 6-DOF missile simulations across multiple concurrent programs and keep them on a common architecture. You will set the direction for model development and verification and lead trade studies on an HPC grid that shape program decisions. This role combines hands-on technical work with growing and leading a team.
Responsibilities- Manage multiple program simulations while keeping them common. This includes:
- Defining the shared architecture and baseline,
- Deciding which elements stay common and which are program-specific,
- Controlling how changes move across programs so the simulations do not diverge.
- Lead the development and maintenance of preexisting 6-DOF missile simulations of various degrees of fidelity, and serve as the technical authority for model fidelity, architecture, and numerical methods.
- Design and develop complex new models, and review models written by other engineers.
- Define and own verification standards, including test plans, regression frameworks, acceptance criteria, and documentation, so that every model change is verified before release.
- Plan and lead large Monte Carlo and parametric trade studies on an HPC grid, and present findings and recommendations to program leadership and customers.
- Lead efforts to anchor simulations to flight test and ground test data, and resolve discrepancies between simulation and hardware.
- Set technical priorities and estimate effort for simulation work across programs.
- Represent the M&S team in design reviews and customer meetings.
- Support analysis needs of the Systems and GNC teams.
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. An M.S. is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience developing physics-based simulations of dynamic systems, with significant 6-DOF missile or flight vehicle simulation experience.
- Deep expertise in rigid-body dynamics, aerodynamics modeling, and numerical methods.
- Working knowledge of missile guidance, autopilot, seeker, and propulsion modeling.
- Expert proficiency in C++, Python, and Git.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple simulations or simulation variants on a common baseline.
- Experience building, leading, or mentoring an engineering team.
- Demonstrated experience defining and executing model verification and validation.
- Experience running large-scale studies on HPC clusters and analyzing statistical results.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
- Experience with missile simulation accreditation processes.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulation.
- Experience presenting technical results to customers or senior leadership.
- Experience with Azure Dev Ops.
ASEI provides an excellent employee benefit package including highly competitive salary, bonus, safe harbor self-directed 401k, company paid group life insurance, medical and PTO, along with education reimbursement.
This is an on-site position which requires periodic travel in support of programs.
