The Mortgage Loan Consultant (MLC) proactively originates new residential mortgage business and promotes USF Federal Credit Union mortgage products to members through business development activities, inbound calls, business relationships and branch referrals. The MLC will originate and follow up on leads, referrals and member inquiries that are generated from their activities. The MLC will communicate effectively to develop discussions and interviews to determine member readiness.

During these interactions virtually, over the phone or in person, the employee will be responsible for analyzing financial data, credit data, determining member financing objectives and aligning loan programs. The individual will have an in-depth knowledge of our products, policies and guidelines to guide and direct our members. The Mortgage Loan Consultant identifies, develops, and maintains member relationships that serve as a cornerstone to a positive member experience and recurring source of referrals for new mortgage lending opportunities.

The MLC provides outstanding customer service through knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to ethics, complying with all Federal and State compliance policies and adhering to HMDA and ECOA requirements.

Essential Functions & Additional Responsibilities
  • Receives inbound calls, through assigned ACD call channels & educates members on mortgage products and rates. Adheres to established call center Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to maintain excellent member experience. May take complete mortgage applications over the phone or refer members to USFFCU website to enter an application.
  • Meet with retail employees, professional referrals and branch walk‑in members. Reviews and analyzes credit and financial data to provide accurate product information. Determines borrower financing objectives and goals to present appropriate USF Credit Union products and programs and explain guidelines. Collects supporting loan documentation as required and provides a complete package to Mortgage Loan Processor. Identifies appropriate opportunities to sell additional credit union products & services.

    Uploads complete application via appropriate Loan Origination Software (LOS).
  • Works with Mortgage Loan Processor, Mortgage Loan Underwriter and Dept Managers to ensure loan documents and conditions are submitted in a timely manner as prescribed by department guidelines. Communicates with retail, consumer lending and call center teams to build knowledge and awareness. Works with individual employees to train, develop and encourage product awareness.
  • Attends and completes all USF Federal Credit Union required training. Maintains current and thorough knowledge of all lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Performs all job functions in accordance with USF Federal Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential mortgage lending.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of mortgage lending or processing.
  • Knowledge of conventional and/or government guidelines as well as an understanding of the Federal Regulations governing Real Estate Lending.
Other Skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, and experience with POS and LOS systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of secondary guidelines, CFPB lending requirements (TRID, ATR and QM), the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to: U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
