Our client is a long-standing, community-centered nonprofit organization serving a vibrant and growing membership base. Rooted in strong values and deep tradition, they provide a wide range of programs, services, and facilities that support individuals and families across all stages of life. They are entering a phase of modernization and thoughtful growth, strengthening financial discipline, improving systems, and positioning the organization for long-term sustainability.
To support this evolution, they are seeking a hands‑on, commercially minded Chief Financial Officer who brings both operational rigor and revenue‑building perspective.
This is a working CFO role for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers, improving how things run, and helping an organization grow smarter, not just bigger.
Position Summary
The CFO will oversee all financial and administrative operations, including accounting, budgeting, audit, treasury, risk management, IT, facilities, and enterprise-wide financial governance. You will partner closely with executive leadership to improve financial performance, strengthen margins, and ensure resources are deployed effectively to support the organization’s mission.
This leader will be both steward and builder, protecting the foundation while actively improving the financial engine.
What You’ll Do
Own the Financial Engine
- Lead day-to-day accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and audit
- Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and compliance practices
- Oversee preparation of audited financial statements and board reporting
- Monitor performance vs. budget and turn insights into action
Strengthen Revenue & Financial Sustainability
- Support financial modeling, program economics, and reinvestment analysis
- Identify margin improvement opportunities and new revenue streams
- Bring for‑profit discipline to pricing, cost control, and financial decision‑making
Strengthen Risk, Compliance & Infrastructure
- Lead audit, insurance, and organizational risk management
- Maintain strong banking and advisor relationships
Guide Facilities & Physical Operations
- Oversee facilities operations, capital planning, and vendor performance
- Ensure locations operate safely, efficiently, and within budget
Build & Lead High‑Performing Teams
- Lead, mentor, and develop finance and accounting teams
- Create a culture of accountability, clarity, and continuous improvement
Systems Oversight
- Oversee IT services to ensure reliable, secure day-to-day operations
What They’re Looking For
- CPA required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Strong preference for candidates from for‑profit environments, particularly retail, hospitality, real estate, or multi‑site operations, with nonprofit exposure or experience as well
- Hands‑on, improvement‑oriented leadership style
- Comfort partnering with boards, lenders, auditors, and senior executives
