Bilingual Spanish Research Community Health Educator

Summary
:
The Bilingual Research Community Health Educator should be able to travel to community sites in the Moffitt catchment area including Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, and Sumter counties at least 2‑3 times per week. Occasional travel to Puerto Rico (up to 1‑2 times per year) is required.

The role will develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for community members, partner agencies, professional community audiences, and other health providers. Activities will focus on improving cancer screening behaviors and outcomes in our catchment area populations, with culturally and linguistically appropriate education.

The portfolio of work will be assigned by the PI or manager of record and conducted under their direction.

Ideal Candidate
  • Bilingual Spanish, with ability to pass a fluency exam.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the specified catchment areas.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational ability, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ownership of previous responsibilities and effective presentation skills to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in word processing and database entry.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams; plan, organize, and coordinate multiple assignments while maintaining relationships.
  • Self‑directed with excellent time‑management skills in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor assigned protocol(s).
  • Deliver research interventions.
  • Participate in ongoing training to assure quality and compliance.
  • Execute educational activities consistent with national initiatives on culturally and linguistically appropriate education.
  • Educate diverse audiences about cancer prevention and screening; identify barriers and facilitators to research participation.
  • Coordinate preventive health education services and act as a resource in capacity‑building roles.
  • Build networks and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, conduct, lead, or implement targeted health education, outreach, or navigation activities on cancer prevention, health promotion, and recruitment of diverse research participants.
  • Train community members as lay health promoters to deliver evidence‑based cancer education programs.
Credentials And Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s in a scientific, health‑related, or business administration program preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience, including one year of research experience (e.g., epidemiologic, observational, diagnostic, supportive care, clinical intervention) and one year of community or patient teaching/education experience in chronic disease.
  • Demonstrated listening and speaking proficiency per language proficiency testing through Moffitt’s approved vendor (to be completed within 90 days).
  • Experience in public speaking, marketing, program planning, development, evaluation, and working with diverse groups.
  • Preferred community or patient teaching/education experience in oncology.
  • Required Bilingual (Spanish) oral and written communication.
  • Preferred prior patient contact in a health care setting, ideally in a consenting role.
  • Preferred knowledge of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) programs and experience in communications, comprehensive cancer control, training, program planning, and evaluation.
