The main role of the Surgical Tech is to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and establish and maintain a sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room.
Duties Include- Ensure sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
- Assist circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment.
- Assist circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
- Gown and glove surgeons and assistants.
- Assist in keeping physician preference cards accurate and updated.
- Retain all specimens for pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with the surgeon.
- Transport surgical equipment to cleaning areas. Assist in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
- Interact appropriately with patients and others regardless of age or ethnic background.
- Use Standard Universal Precautions, proper hand hygiene, PPE, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
- Assist with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participate in emergency preparedness drills.
- Follow equipment and safety guidelines; maintain knowledgeful use and care of equipment.
- Serve as a resource to other members of the health care team.
- Attend in-services, conferences, and meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees; maintain patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
- Maintain designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.
- Act in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.
- Comply with Policies and Procedures and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.

RequiredExperience and Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of an appropriate surgical technician program or previous surgical technician experience.
- Minimum of 1 year spine/ortho surgical experience required.
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient.
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing patient conditions when needed.
- Excellent teamwork and ability to communicate with staff, patients, and physicians.
