The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine invites applications for a Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) Facility Manager to oversee operations of its cutting-edge structural biology core housing a JEOL CRYO ARM™ 300 II transmission electron microscope. This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-end cryo-EM facility and support transformative research in biomedical sciences.
The Facility Manager will play a key role in maintaining the microscope and supporting investigators in single-particle cryo-EM, cryo-tomography, and sample preparation workflows.
The University of South Florida is a preeminent public research university with a strong commitment to innovation, translational science, and community impact. The Morsani College of Medicine is investing in structural biology and cryo-EM as a cornerstone of biomedical research. The JEOL CRYO ARM™ 300 II microscope is part of USF’s strategic initiative to offer world-class imaging capabilities to faculty and collaborators.
Responsibilities- Manage the day-to-day operation of the cryo-EM facility, including the JEOL CRYO ARM™ 300 II microscope and associated equipment.
- Provide user training in cryo-sample preparation, microscope operation, and data acquisition (using Serial
EM or JEOL-specific platforms). - Develop and implement standard operating procedures for high-throughput and high-resolution data collection.
- Collaborate with researchers in experimental design, data processing (e.g., RELION, cryo
SPARC), and interpretation of results. - Troubleshoot instrument performance, coordinate service and maintenance with JEOL engineers.
- Maintain detailed usage logs, billing records, and budget tracking for the core facility.
- Contribute to research proposals, publications, and core facility development plans.
- Organize workshops and educational programs to promote cryo-EM access and literacy within the USF research community.
