Overview

Medical Physicist (Finance) The Medical Physicist, in collaboration with other members of the medical team, has primary responsibility for the technical aspects of clinical treatment provided through the radiation therapy department. Collaborates with Medical Staff in developing the course of treatment, clinical documentation, and review of outcomes. Calibrates radiation therapy equipment. Provides training for departmental staff and lectures for medical staff as requested.

Serves as radiation safety officer. Assists in the strategic planning for equipment and provision of services. Assists in the development of policies and clinical protocols. Provides professional oversight for departmental operations. Assists with duties of the Dosimetrist role as assigned, including generating radiation treatment dosage calculations, treatment locations, computerized treatment plans, and dose distributions to provide radiation treatment in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists  order.

Other areas of involvement may include radioactive source handling, radiation safety, and patient setup assistance. Performs verification checks and applies quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of dose calculations. Performs job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.
