City of Tampa is offering a Police Recruit Scholarship program to train for Florida certification as a police officer. Recruits attend Basic Recruit class at Hillsborough Community College, with training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
for about 6 months. Those who complete training are reclassified to Police Officer and receive benefits per the labor contract. The City covers tuition, uniforms, equipment and books, and recruits are hired as City employees during training.
