Meaningful Work and Personal Impact

As a Virtualization/VMware Systems Administrator, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of USCENTCOM. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing the virtual infrastructure that supports mission‑critical operations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and maintain VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines across multiple sites.
  • Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, resource utilization, and system availability.
  • Implement and manage VMware networking components, including distributed switches and VLANs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to VMware technologies, ensuring minimal downtime, to include performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and virtual machine management.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to design integrated infrastructure solutions aligned with command requirements.
  • Mentor junior administrators to enhance team expertise in virtualization technologies.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain documentation for virtualization architecture, processes, and procedures.
  • Implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual machines and infrastructure components.
  • Evaluate and recommend new VMware technologies to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD security policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Support projects to enhance the security, efficiency, or capability of the virtualized environment.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third‑party providers for troubleshooting and issue resolution.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Certification:
    Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 Certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP).
  • Experience:

    5+ years of related experience.
  • Technical skills:
    • Proficiency in VMware technologies, including ESXi, vCenter Server, vSAN, and vSphere Networking.
    • Strong understanding of virtualization concepts and practices.
    • Excellent documentation, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a high‑stakes environment.
  • Desired

    Skills:
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP).
    • ITIL 4 Foundation Certification.
    • Experience with VMware Horizon for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
    • Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible or Power

      CLI.
    • Experience with USCENTCOM and understanding of its mission and IT environment.
  • Security clearance level: TS/SCI clearance required.
  • US citizenship required.

Salary & Benefits

Likely salary range for this position: $108,800 – $147,200. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements and may fall outside of this range.

Travel Required:

Less than 10%

Telecommuting Options:
Onsite

Regular work week: 40 hours.
