Linux Systems Engineer

Our MSP client is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to serve as the primary Linux expert supporting a key healthcare client. This role is ideal for a hands‑on engineer who enjoys owning systems end‑to‑end, working closely with stakeholders, and solving complex infrastructure and application challenges.

You will be the sole Linux Engineer, responsible for maintaining and improving a production environment built primarily on Ubuntu, virtualization (KVM/QEMU), MySQL, and custom automation written in PHP and Python.

• Support, maintain, and optimize Ubuntu-based Linux systems in a production healthcare environment
• Manage and administer virtualized infrastructure using KVM/QEMU
• Administer, monitor, and tune MySQL databases for performance, availability, and reliability
• Develop and maintain automation, scripts, and internal tooling using PHP and/or Python
• Troubleshoot system, application, and database issues across the stack
• Ensure system stability, security, and operational best practices
• Work directly with internal teams and a healthcare client to support ongoing operational needs

• Strong hands‑on experience administering Ubuntu/Linux systems
• Practical experience supporting KVM/QEMU virtualization
• Solid MySQL administration skills (performance, backups, troubleshooting)
• Ability to script and automate using PHP and/or Python
• Strong troubleshooting skills with a pragmatic, solution‑oriented mindset
• Monitoring tools & backup technologies, security hardening experience
• Comfortable working independently and owning Linux infrastructure

• Backup and disaster recovery strategies
• Networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls)
• CI/CD pipelines or Dev Ops tooling
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
