Gulf Coast Geomatics Manager

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manager for the Survey/Geomatics group, based in Tampa, FL. This role involves overall program and project management, leading and scaling the team for diverse projects, and employing data‑driven technologies to ensure high‑quality deliverables for our client. This leadership role will guide the strategic growth of our Geomatics practice across private, state and federal markets.

Responsibilities
  • Service Line
    • Develops and directs service line strategies that support VHB's strategic plan and local business planning.
    • Aligns service offerings to VHB's market requirements.
    • Collaborates with local and regional leadership to drive key hires, client development, and technical excellence.
    • Develops growth plans and identifies market opportunities and strategies.
    • Monitors and maintains the financial performance of the Survey/Geomatics group.
  • Data‑Driven Technologies
    • Promotes awareness of available technologies within the Survey/Geomatics team.
    • Uses advanced survey technologies including UAS, terrestrial scanning, LiDAR, and GPS systems.
    • Evaluates and implements new tools and workflows to enhance project delivery and client satisfaction.
    • Develops client solutions leveraging advancements in data and technologies.
  • QA/QC Practices
    • Manages full project life cycles from scoping to delivery.
    • Ensures quality control and consistency across all deliverables and processes.
    • Supports cross‑office work sharing and staff resourcing for large, complex projects.
    • Works with leadership groups to develop and implement consistent work processes and standards.
    • Reviews client and quality audit feedback and implements best practices.
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervises and mentors a team of survey professionals across office, field, and remote settings.
    • Oversees hiring, training, performance management, and career development within the group.
    • Fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation.
  • Project Management
    • Creates project plans, identifies resources, and executes projects to completion.
    • Develops, monitors, and maintains project budgets, scopes, and schedules.
    • Promotes work sharing across offices and advises on staff deployment.
    • Manages a team of Survey/Geomatics professionals, handling hiring, training, and performance.
    • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
    • Performs all functions in compliance with applicable regulations and VHB policies.
Skills and Attributes
  • Strong leadership and decision‑making skills with a strategic mindset.
  • Proficiency in survey technologies and software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble, Micro Station, Geopak, Open Roads Designer, and LiDAR platforms.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent management skills with emphasis on performance recognition and development.
  • Ability to strategically identify and implement innovative ideas that add value.
  • Proficient in a broad array of technical skills with professional mastery.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Self‑motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience managing Survey/Geomatics projects, including 5+ years of client, staff, and project management.
  • BS in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Reality Capture, or related field.
  • Licensed Land Surveyor in Florida is required.
