Radiographs metal castings and inspect images and castings for flaws and misorientations. Grain Laue inspector performs visual and dimensional inspections on product in the grain etch condition for customers casting grain requirements and uses Laue x-ray equipment to measure single crystal grain angle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Align castings on Laue unit.
- Process casting in accordance with approved Laue techniques.
- Verify grain structures are acceptable to required techniques.
- Monitor working area to protect personnel and perform daily equipment preparation and radiation safety inspections.
- Laue Level I and II Certification obtained.
- Proficiency in safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Basic arithmetic, geometry, and drawing interpretation skills.
- Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and apply instructions in diverse formats.
- Must pass near vision-JAEGER Type No. 1 test and color perception test.
- Continuous maintenance of certification through periodic testing.
High school diploma, GED; or 1–3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination.
Physical DemandsRegularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with arms; stand, talk, hear; walk, sit, squat, kneel, crouch. Must lift or move up to 10 lbs regularly, up to 25 lbs frequently, and to 50 lbs occasionally. Requires close and color vision.
Work EnvironmentExposure to moving mechanical equipment; risk of radiation (very unlikely); occasional fumes or airborne particles; quiet noise level.
