Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician

The Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician fabricates complex orthotic and prosthetic devices with minimal guidance, performs repairs and adjustments, manages inventory, and upholds company Six Sigma 6S standards. The role supports practitioners and maintains high quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and analyze work orders and fabrication forms
  • Follow specifications and critically assess work orders for missing or conflicting information
  • Fabricate devices following WCBL’s Quality Assurance guidelines
  • QC the steps prior to checkout to ensure deficiencies are addressed
  • Complete fabrication stages by predetermined due dates
  • Prepare molds and thermoform plastics using drape or bubble/blister forming
  • Perform metal work, raising, bending, welding, and finishing as needed
  • Execute occasional leather work, including prep, molding, and sewing
  • Apply riveting, laminations, and other finishing techniques
  • Make efficient repairs and adjustments to devices
  • Follow product manufacturer’s guidelines and maintain cosmetic quality
  • Communicate effectively with customers and supervisors about orders
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the fabrication tracker
  • Provide guidance to other technicians and suggest SOP improvements
  • Adhere to OSHA, MSDS, and Six Sigma 6S safety requirements
  • Utilize appropriate PPE and equipment safety precautions
  • Maintain and clean equipment and ensure a safe, orderly environment
Required Skills
  • Shape plastic or metal by bending, welding, or cutting
  • Use rubber, felt, plastic, leather, wood, fabric, etc. to create devices per specifications
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and machinery (e.g., saws, drills, routers, sand blasters)
  • Work independently and independently on basic and complex upper and lower extremity prosthetic systems
  • Experience with adjustable socket systems, myoelectrics, microprocessors, hip and shoulder disarticulations
  • Read diagrams and specifications, understand SOPs
  • Maintain attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Work well in a fast‑paced, team-oriented environment
Education & Experience
  • Trade certificate from an accredited O&P program (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
Equipment Operated
  • Computers, printers, phones, tablets
  • Hand and power tools, basic machinery, dollies, push carts
  • Alignment jigs
Work Environment
  • Busy lab/workshop with moderate to loud noise
  • Occasional exposure to flashing lights, fumes, gases, odors, dust, and biological materials; PPE required
  • ADA accommodation available for seizure‑inducing lighting with documentation
Physical Requirements
  • Work with chemicals and equipment in a safe manner
  • Stand/move 90% of the day; lift or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk on uneven or slick surfaces; bend, squat, reach overhead
  • Work with heat sources and hot materials up to 450 °F with PPE

  • Must attend onsite; maintain a reliable work schedule
  • Deliver clear written and verbal communication
  • Show high attention to detail and analytical thinking for sound decisions
  • Handle confidential information and comply with HIPAA standards
  • Meet deadlines, adapt to changing requirements, and manage stress
