The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Allergy and Immunology, is seeking a full-time Open Rank Basic Scientist with a research interest in independent and collaborative research within the discipline of Allergy and Immunology (Asthma, Immunotherapy, Food Allergies, etc). Additional academic responsibilities will include advising and mentoring students in the development of scholarly projects; assessing, reviewing, and evaluating student educational activities and progress;
and serving on university-wide, medical school, and/or departmental committees. The candidate will complement current areas of faculty expertise and be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded, sustainable program for independent and/or collaborative research in the candidate’s area of interest.
Prefer: 3-4 years of basic science experience. Previous experience in an academic medical center with a proven track record in teaching.
Responsibilities- Teaching:
Teach medical students and residents about in-patient and out-patient internal medicine; with the majority of effort involving supervising internal medicine residents in an in-patient setting. Position may also do precepting medical students in an ambulatory clerkship. - Research:
Design and execute hypothesis-driven experiments. Analyze, interpret, and present data in lab meetings, institutional seminars, and scientific conferences. Maintain accurate and organized research records and contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, and peer-reviewed publications. Stay current with relevant scientific literature and bring innovative ideas and critical thinking to the lab’s research direction. Collaborate with internal and external teams, including clinicians, and core facilities, to advance translational aspects of the research.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to scientific integrity, teamwork, and professional development. - The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.

Minimum:
Ph.D. degree in immunology, microbiology, or related life sciences discipline from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.Preferred
- Solid understanding of immunology, molecular biology, and cellular signaling pathways. Experienced in a basic immunology lab, with a strong grasp of techniques including cell culture, PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, cytokine profiling, and immunoassays.
- Hands‑on experience with in vivo immunological models (e.g., murine xenograft/allograft models, immune reconstitution studies, or infection/challenge models). Proven expertise in immune response characterization, including immune cell phenotyping, cytokine analysis, and antigen‑specific response assays.
- Familiarity with data analysis for immunological experiments (e.g., flow cytometry data, multiplex cytokine assays, or immune repertoire sequencing) and comfort using basic computational tools (e.g., Graph Pad Prism, Flow Jo, R) for analysis.
- Basic knowledge in bioinformatics and transcriptomic analysis are a plus. Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary immunology or translational research teams.
