Southwest Florida Water Management District

Overview

Join the District to protect Florida’s water resources. This Hybrid role supports the Water Use Permit (WUP) Compliance section by reviewing annual reports, analyzing hydrologic data, assessing groundwater/surface water movement, and communicating scientific information.

Responsibilities
  • Apply geology/hydrogeology knowledge when reviewing supporting documentation for water use permit applications.
  • Verify permitsites are in compliance with conditions on water use permits.
  • Use computer software to analyze and interpret hydrologic data from well logs, test data, and file of record database information.
  • Assess groundwater and/or surface water movement to ensure reasonable assurance criteria are satisfied prior to WUP issuance.
  • Communicate scientific and technical information in various formats including graphs and charts.
  • Answer questions and provide technical assistance internally and to members of the public when appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Hydrology or Geology.
  • 0 years of experience for Hydrogeologist 1; 2 years for Hydrogeologist 2; 4 years for Hydrogeologist 3.
  • Valid driver’s license required for all positions.
Preferred Credentials
  • Environmental science related experience.
  • Wetlands knowledge or background supported by education and/or work experience.
Compensation

Starting salary ranges reflect the minimum to 25% of the respective pay grades. Salary ranges are:

  • Hydrogeologist 1: $53,589.00 – $63,260.25
  • Hydrogeologist 2: $57,875.00 – $68,308.00
  • Hydrogeologist 3: $61,254.00 – $72,850.00

Working Conditions

In‑office: Standard office environment. Occasional travel may be required.

In‑field: Remote and undeveloped areas. Extensive travel and some outdoor labor may be required. Must be able to bend, lift, carry, swim, and reach above shoulder level. May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Must operate motorized vehicle; some off‑road (4x4) driving. May operate ATV and watercraft.
