Armed Security Officer – Moffitt Cancer Center

Position Highlights:
The Armed Security Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and guests. This position responds promptly to emergency situations, including active threats and alarm activations, while enforcing institutional policies such as the weapons‑free campus. The officer conducts regular security patrols, monitors surveillance systems, and investigates incidents to uphold safety standards. The role also involves assisting with calls for medical aid, managing sensitive situations such as employee terminations and prisoner security, and providing exceptional customer service by supporting screening processes, access control, and visitor assistance.

• Ensure that security‑sensitive areas are properly secured.
• Monitor camera systems and use cameras to assist in investigations. Observe and report on security and safety issues.
• Report equipment alarms to responsible parties.
• Check functionality of card access devices and doors.
• Conduct smoking patrols and enforce Center policies.
• Investigate and complete written reports on suspected criminal activity, workplace violence, employee misconduct, slip, trip, and fall incidents.
• Respond to calls for medical assistance, employee terminations, patient security, patient medication transport.
• Respond to reported crimes in progress and provide assistance to law enforcement, critical incidents, and duress alarms.

• High School Education/GED required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of security experience in a hospital setting is required.
• A valid Florida driver’s license is required upon hire.
• Florida Class "G" Firearm License within 90 days of hire.
• BLS with CPR (must obtain within six (6) months of hire).
• Florida Class "D" Security Officer License obtained within 90 days of hire.

• Law enforcement, military service, or military police experience may be substituted on a one‑for‑one basis.

• 10 years of law enforcement experience, supervisory experience in law enforcement or a hospital security setting.
• Investigative experience.
• Law Enforcement Investigations experience.
• Experience as a supervisor.
• Experience working with video monitoring technology.
• Experience with report writing software.
• IAHSS Basic and Advanced Certifications.
