Overview
The Community School Officer 2 is a patrol position that performs routine armed security duties on school district property in accordance with standard policies and procedures. The Community School Officer 2 performs duties under the general supervision of an immediate supervisor, who evaluates performance through observation of work, periodic conferences, critiques, and/or records or reports. DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS:

- Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.
- Instructs students on approved crime prevention, law enforcement, or security-related programs. Topics include walking to school safely, bullying, and cyber-bullying.
- Interacts with students during lunch periods.
- Provides ongoing training to staff members regarding security issues and emergency procedures. Training includes follow-up debriefings regarding school emergency drills.
- Speaks to citizen groups concerning security or law enforcement-related topics.
- Assists the school community with any security problems that occur at the school.
- Meets with parents who have concerns regarding security at their child’s school.
- Assists with pedestrian and vehicle traffic issues on campus.
- Serves on school and community committees.
- Attends after-school functions to assist with security (e.g., PTA meetings, Open House, parent-teacher conferences) if requested.
- Performs regular checks on exterior doors and gates for access control; performs regular checks of parking lots, playgrounds, physical education courts, and school perimeter.
- Responds to calls for service including criminal mischief, theft incidents, disturbances, truancy, campus security, and other related issues.
- Enforces school or site traffic and parking regulations and conducts routine ground safety investigations.
- Prepares required records and/or offense reports, inspects for fire/safety hazards, answers questions, and guides visitors/guests.
- Recommends and analyzes information relative to proactive and reactive district security measures and countermeasures.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and RequirementsExperience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in security or Law Enforcement. Verified college experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for each year of the experience requirement. Satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy, or satisfactory US military service, or certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) may substitute for the two years of experience.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Current Florida "D" and "G" Security license or eligibility to obtain these licenses prior to being hired. Additionally, either (1) issuance and continued maintenance of a school guardian certificate by the Hillsborough County Sheriff pursuant to section 30.15(1)(k), Florida Statutes or (2) qualify as a “Law Enforcement Officer” pursuant to section 943.10, Florida Statutes and be certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission within the Department of Law Enforcement.
Language/Mathematical/Reasoning/Computer Skills: Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules and operating instructions; writes routine reports and correspondence; speaks effectively before groups. Performs basic mathematics; uses Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands: Standing, walking, running, sitting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, bending, crawling, handling, keyboarding, speaking, hearing, and color vision.
