Position Details
The Office of Campus Recreation at University of Tampa has an opening for the position Associate Director, Aquatics and Safety
. This position will be directly responsible for the overall management of the 32,000-square-foot Benson Alex Riseman Aquatic Center, which includes an 11 lane, 25‑yard competition‑sized pool, small recreational pool and clover leaf‑shaped hot tub. Additionally, a pool house features a large viewing platform, visiting team facilities, restrooms and storage. This position reports to the Director, Campus Recreation and will also collaborate closely with the Athletic Department, specifically the UTAMPA Head Swim Coach.

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.
Responsibilities1. Oversees and coordinates the administration of the facility, to include scheduling of facility operations and contract management.
2. Serves as the primary pool operator for competition pool, recreational pool and spa.
3. Oversees the contracted maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control and cleanliness, while ensuring that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained, and that pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements.
4. Responsible for the execution of all daily testing and monitoring, as well as the handling of repairs, adjustments and preventive maintenance when appropriate.
5. Manages all aquatic facility reservations, including open swim, swim team, clubs, academic classes, summer camps and special events.
6. Responsible for the development and revision of all aquatic policies and procedures.
7. Coordinates the recruitment, hiring, training, certification, scheduling and performance of student coordinators, head guards, lifeguards and other necessary student employment positions including ongoing training and in‑services.
8. Collaborates with swim coaches, staff, facilities management and housekeeping to successfully manage facility.
9. Responsible for assisting Athletics and head swim coach with coordination of home swim meets, including managing the swim meet and operating the scoreboard.
10. Develops, implements and oversees a variety of aquatics programs for students, faculty and staff.
11. Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction.
12. Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies; keeps a comprehensive, historical and up to date record of all preventive maintenance and other work done including in the pump room and chemical rooms.
13. Responsible for all risk management relating to the Riseman Aquatic Center including emergency action plans and chemical safety.
14. Manages certifications, records and audits of First Aid/CPR/AED for all campus recreation employees, oversees first aid supply inventory, and assists in providing instruction to the University community.
15. Attend trainings and fully engage in learning and utilizing university‑wide technology, specifically Workday, and other department specific technology platforms; responsible for the management of a 16ft video board at the Riseman Aquatic Center.
16. Oversees the procurement of all relevant data as it relates to the Riseman Aquatic Center; responsible for assessment of programs, services, employees, etc. to measure learning, success, and improve operations.
