POSITION PURPOSEThe Superintendent of Bus Maintenance is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, planning, and oversight of all transit bus and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance activities to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient fleet. This role directs 24/7 bus maintenance operations, supervises technical staff, and ensures compliance with all Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and internal agency standards.
The Superintendent provides technical and administrative leadership in preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, inspections, and overhauls of a large fleet of heavy-duty transit buses powered by diesel, CNG, and emerging propulsion technologies. The role ensures vehicle availability targets, Mean Distance Between Failures (MDBF), and safety standards are consistently achieved.

Manage daily service readiness for the transit bus fleet, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and performance requirements. - Supervision & Workforce Development

Lead and mentor a team of maintenance supervisors, technicians, and service staff, fostering technical growth and adherence to standard operating procedures. - Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

Oversee scheduled inspections, major component repairs, and campaigns to extend asset life cycles in alignment with Transit Asset Management (TAM) plans. - Regulatory Compliance

Ensure maintenance practices comply with FTA Circulars, FDOT FAC 14-90, OSHA, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. - Process Improvement

Implement modern diagnostic tools, telematics, and best practices to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and control costs. - Budget & Resource Management

Support the efficient use of labor hours, parts inventory, and vendor services to remain within the maintenance budget. - Safety & Reliability

Champion a culture of safety in the workplace and on the road, ensuring that every bus placed in service operates reliably for passengers and operators.
The Superintendent of Bus Maintenance plays a key leadership role in ensuring the delivery of transit services by maintaining the backbone of operations—the bus fleet. This position requires technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to managing both people and assets.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management- Lead and supervise a team comprising fleet maintenance supervisors, foremen, technicians, and support staff.
- Foster professional development through targeted training, mentorship programs, and performance evaluations.
- Cultivate a safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement culture within the fleet maintenance team.
- Direct all maintenance activities, including scheduled and unscheduled repairs, ensuring timely and high-quality completion.
- Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics to proactively identify trends and address maintenance needs.
- Oversee vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with terms and fostering productive relationships.
- Manage service agreements, warranties, and other contractual obligations to uphold quality standards.
- Enforce adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and FTA standards.
- Implement robust safety protocols to ensure employee well‑being and a safe working environment.
- Lead safety training initiatives for all fleet maintenance personnel.
- Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance activities, repairs, and inspection records.
- Generate and submit compliance, performance, and asset condition reports to stakeholders.
- Monitor KPIs and develop actionable insights to enhance maintenance operations.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software, ensuring its effective utilization for fleet management.
- Oversee the implementation, customization, and ongoing optimization of EAM to align with operational needs.
- Develop, document, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to EAM usage for asset tracking, work order management, and inventory control.
- Provide training and support to staff on EAM functionalities and best practices.
- Leverage EAM data analytics to identify trends, track fleet performance, and optimize maintenance strategies.
- Lead initiatives to improve fleet reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and minimize vehicle downtime.
