Lead Mobile Light/Medium Duty Technician – Responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Achieve mastery in a majority of technical disciplines, provide advanced diagnostics, mentor and teach other technicians, and lead on jobsites with strong customer interaction. Performs duties of Mobile Technician Manager when necessary.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light and medium vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment (e.g., electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment (electrical, brakes, cooling, AC, engine electronics, steering, transmissions, clutches, differentials).
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, automotive tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work and upload pictures on Repair Orders (RO) using iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Operate independently, managing own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity, working within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase orders, and RO notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Support Mobile Light/Medium Technicians I, II, & Sr. with inventory reconciliation and mentoring.
- Assist Mobile Tech Manager with quality control inspections of other Mobile Light/Medium Technicians.
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years experience, or an alternative combination (any degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline with 5 years experience, or 9 years experience in a related field).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Must successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Must have a current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining until expiration (or a DOT physical if less than 4 months).
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
- Must hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File; safe drivers required.
