This position performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II may perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, learning additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and observations on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documents promptly.
- Work independently, managing own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates or retrieve purchase order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and complete daily pre‑post trip inspections.
- High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternative combinations accepted (e.g., a degree or certification beyond HS, or 5 years of experience).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical prior to employment.
