The Student Management Officer is engaged to strengthen the school's capacity to manage reported bullying, peer-conflict and student conduct cases. Working together with Form Teachers and Year Heads, this officer will support case management and some student development initiatives, allowing the school's student management team to focus on more complex cases and strategic student development work.

Key Responsibilities

The officer will support the school's student management team in the following areas:

  • Fact-finding — Gather accounts and information from affected parties, including students and witnesses, to establish a clear picture of incidents or concerns.
  • Case Inquiry and documentation — Support the Year Head in establishing the facts of reported student conduct incidents through interviews, review of available information, documentation and appropriate follow-up. The officer is not responsible for determining disciplinary outcomes.
  • Student engagement — Engage students of varying profiles in a supportive and constructive manner, drawing on an understanding of classroom dynamics and student behaviour to build rapport and facilitate positive outcomes.
  • Restorative and conflict-resolution support — Where assessed as appropriate by the Year Head, facilitate restorative conversations or other conflict-resolution processes between students. Cases involving bullying, significant power imbalance, safety concerns or serious misconduct should be referred to the Year Head for direction before any joint dialogue is conducted.
  • Parent engagement — Support the Year Head/Form Teacher in communicating with parents or guardians on student management matters, including gathering relevant information and providing agreed factual updates. The officer shall not independently communicate findings, attribute fault, make commitments on behalf of the school, or communicate disciplinary decisions without prior clearance from the Year Head or School Leader.
  • Escalation of concerns — Promptly escalation cases involving student safety or well-being, suspected abuse, self-harm concerns, serious violence, sexual misconduct, repeated or severe bullying, threats, or other significant concerns to the Year Head or designated school personnel. The officer shall not independently manage such cases beyond immediate actions necessary to safeguard students.
  • Student supervision and presence — Maintain a visible presence during designated recesses, examinations, detention periods and student movement, observe student interactions, provide appropriate verbal reminders and support orderly behaviour. Matters requiring disciplinary intervention shall be referred promptly to the teacher-in-charge or Year Head.
  • Record-keeping and reporting — Maintain proper case notes for all student management matters handled, and provide regular updates to the Year Head on case progress to support accountability and continuity of care.
  • Detention supervision — Supervise students assigned to detention, ensure orderly conduct and compliance with the school’s detention requirements, and engage students appropriately to encourage reflection on their behaviour and better choices. The officer should monitor and record attendance and any significant observations or incidents during detention, and refer behavioural concerns or matters requiring disciplinary action to the Year Head or designated teacher.
Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work, Education or a related discipline would be advantageous
  • Preferably at least 2 years' experience working directly with children or youths, particularly in a school, youth, community or social-service setting.
