Assistant Accountant

We are working with a growing accountancy practice based in Tamworth, supporting a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses and individuals. As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of accounting, compliance and advisory services, working closely with senior accountants and managers across a varied client base.

• Role Breadth & Ownership: Move beyond narrow task-based work. This role offers end-to-end exposure across accounts, tax and bookkeeping, with genuine responsibility for client delivery.

• Direct Access to Senior Leadership: Work closely with senior accountants and decision‑makers, gaining insight into both technical delivery and the commercial side of running a practice.

• Study Support: Structured study support available for the right candidate, including support towards AAT, ACA or ACCA qualifications.

• Preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Preparation of management accounts.
• Assisting with corporation tax computations.
• Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Bookkeeping using cloud-based accounting software (Xero, Quick Books, Sage).
• Assisting with personal tax returns.
• Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and obtain information.
• Supporting senior team members with ad hoc accounting and tax work.
• Ensuring all work is completed accurately and to agreed deadlines.

• Previous experience within an accountancy practice is ideal but not essential.
• AAT qualified or part-qualified ACA / ACCA preferred.
• Solid understanding of UK accounting and VAT principles.
• Experience working with cloud accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• Confident communicator with a professional client-focused approach.
• Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a small team.

• Salary £25,000 - £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience).
