Job PurposeI am looking to build a team of supportive and enthusiastic Personal Care Assistants. I am 49 years old and live at home with my mum and our elderly family dog in Tamworth. I have cerebral palsy and sensory processing disorder and although I am nonverbal, I have excellent understanding and communicate fluently with signs. Following recent surgery my mobility has reduced, but with support and regular physiotherapy, I am working hard to regain my independence and mobility.
I also have controlled epilepsy, which is triggered by trauma/viruses and is rare. The role involves not only providing practical care and assistance but also encouraging and enabling me to maintain my independence, pursue my interests and stay actively engaged in the activities I enjoy. A supportive, patient, and positive approach will help him me feel confident and motivated in my day-to-day life.
I am a very sociable person and enjoy horse riding, swimming, playing games and social interaction.
- Personal care:
Provide full support with all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing, brushing teeth, shaving and stoma care, ensuring hygiene, comfort and dignity at all times. - Nutrition & Medication:
Support with preparing and assisting with a pureed and controlled diet ensuring meals and drinks are provided safely and in line with dietary needs. Assistance with medication, following the prescribed schedule and maintaining accurate records. - Domestic duties:
Support with domestic duties around the home, including preparing meals and drinks. - Perform any other duties that are a reasonable request.
- All training will be provided.
- A driver is preferred.
- Be patient and supportive.
- Be a dog lover and support the employer to look after his dog.
- Be honest, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Be respectful of the gentleman’s dignity at all times.
- Understand the need for privacy and confidentiality.
- You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, and raise any concerns immediately.
- A willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer.
- A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) and two satisfactory references are conditional for the post. This is a free and confidential process.
