About the business
This is a well-established UK manufacturer with 35+ years’ specialist expertise, exporting engineered, build-to-order equipment to 54 countries worldwide. The company is part of a £1.7bn turnover global technology group and is on a strong growth journey — with plans in place for turnover to triple over the next 5 years.
Team culture
This is a genuinely supportive workplace where people look out for each other. The culture is caring, collaborative, and “we’ve got your back” — you’re treated fairly and with respect, and that standard runs right through the business. If you like working in a team that communicates well, helps each other out, and takes pride in doing things properly, you’ll fit in.
The role
We’re recruiting for a Purchasing, Buying and Scheduling Manager to take ownership of purchasing activity, inventory control, and supplier scheduling within a manufacturing environment. This role is key to keeping production flowing — ensuring stock accuracy, strong supplier performance, and on-time delivery of materials and components.
Key responsibilities
* Place routine purchase orders where demand is generated from:
* 95% Kanban system
* 5% MRP scheduling (long lead-time items)
* Maintain the Kanban system, settings and stock levels
* Full responsibility for inventory control and inventory record maintenance
* Set up stock codes and maintain re-order levels
* Produce month-end stock reporting
* Manage Stores personnel and take ownership of Stores standards and environment
* Raise H&S concerns and support risk assessments / COSHH activity with Production
* Issue weekly rollover schedules to suppliers for JIT delivery (control panels, chassis fabrications, GRP parts)
* Chase shortages and overdue orders; generate weekly shortage reporting via MRP and manage shortage visibility on site
* Support sourcing of alternatives/new products with the technical team where supply issues occur
* Own procedures for year-end stock take
* Implement and manage cyclic counting to maintain high stock accuracy
What we’re looking for
* Proven experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment
* Strong understanding of stock control / inventory accuracy / purchasing discipline
* Comfortable using Kanban systems and exposure to MRP (especially for long lead items)
* Confident supplier management skills (chasing, expediting, resolving shortages)
* Strong admin skills and attention to detail (Excel competence helpful)
* Able to lead/coordinate Stores activity and maintain standards
What you’ll get
* £45,000 salary
* Stable, growing business with significant investment and a clear growth plan
* A supportive team environment where you’re treated fairly and people work together
