Position Summary

The Processing Lab Supervisor will supervise and optimize all tasks in the Post Processing Lab and assist the Lab Manager and Manufacturing team by maintaining quality control measures in the extraction and purification processes, ensuring the delivery of high-quality product. This Supervisor carries out day‑to‑day tasks including prepping for distillation runs, formulations, and ethanol extractions, and maintaining paperwork using good documentation practices.

The Laboratory Supervisor will be a hands‑on working supervisor responsible for extraction team training and schedule coordination between early and late overlapping shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises the Post Processing staff and accomplishes department results by communicating job expectations; weekly and monthly planning; monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Reports all output metrics directly to the Lab Manager, including daily production metrics, establishing actual vs. expected production results with explanations of variances, staff absences and all associated production paperwork.
  • Showcases effective communication with management and co‑workers on a professional basis, including all team members, leads, supervisors, and upper management.
  • Prepares for efficient production by reviewing the manufacturing schedule; studying and clarifying specifications; calculating batch requirements; assembling and weighing plant materials and supplies for extractions, distillations, and formulations.
  • Ensures proper scheduling of the Post Processing team, accounting for PTO and call‑offs when applicable.
  • Performs all training required for the Post Processing team, including maintaining all required documentation.
  • Operates highly sophisticated extraction and processing equipment; processes concentrate, extracts and formulated products.
  • Maintains lab equipment and laboratory facility following current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and standard operating procedures; complies with legal regulations.
  • Maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots, and repairs laboratory equipment such as extractors, heaters, chillers, vacuum pumps, balances, centrifuges, distillation units and other laboratory equipment.
  • Operates extraction equipment to extract crude oil utilizing ethanol as a solvent in a C1D2 environment.
  • Operates highly sophisticated purification equipment to convert crude oil into decarboxylated oil.
  • Follows procedures for extract purification, including ethanol addition, winterization, filtration, rotary evaporation, decarboxylation and distillation.
  • Assists with the development of further purification processes and in‑process materials, including processes for new products.
  • Maintains inventory records of supplies, materials, equipment PMs as required, and prepares requisitions as needed.
  • Maintains strict inventory within state‑issued cannabis inventory software, MJ Freeway, via regular cycle counts of WIP inventory.
  • Stores supplies and equipment, disposes of waste according to state guidelines, and keeps laboratory, storerooms and working areas organized.
  • Performs clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping, data logging and filing.
  • Maintains material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
