PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team as a Staff Registered Nurse to ensure the provision of quality patient care daily, in accordance with FMS policies, procedures, and training. Supports the FMCNA’s mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy. Participates in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction initiatives, and actively engages in process improvements to achieve FMCNA Quality Enhancement Goals.
Complies with all FMCNA policies and regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs Patient Care Technician’s delivery of safe and effective chronic hemodialysis therapy, ensuring compliance with facility policies and regulations.
- Delegates tasks to care staff including LVNs/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Dialysis Assistants.
- Assesses patient care needs and develops appropriate care assignments.
- Monitors staff techniques and adherence to policies.
- Participates in staff training and new employee orientation.
- Provides patient education on ESRD, dialysis, and related health conditions.
- Educates patients on diet, fluid, medication compliance, and dialysis adequacy measures.
- Adjusts treatment plans based on patient response and communicates concerns to physicians.
- Performs initial and ongoing patient assessments and documentation.
- Ensures proper documentation and lab order entry.
- Maintains safety and sanitation standards, including emergency procedures and equipment readiness.
- Administers medications and transfusions as prescribed, documenting appropriately.
- Participates in CQI activities and maintains accurate patient records.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Involves heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and exposure to infectious materials. Accommodations are available for disabilities.
EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS: Graduate of an accredited Nursing program, current state licensure, and compliance with practice requirements.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Preferably one year of medical-surgical nursing, with hemodialysis experience preferred. CPR certification required. Additional training in hemodialysis theory and practice is necessary.
OTHER: Must meet color vision requirements and be able to provide coverage across facilities as needed.
