Consultant Obstetrician High Risk Obstetrics and Fetal Monitoring Lead

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Consultant Obstetrician to join our expanding team at Musgrove Park Hospital. This new post has been created to strengthen our high-risk obstetric service and support the development of a dedicated elective caesarean section team.

The successful candidate will have a specialist interest in high-risk obstetrics and Fetal surveillance, with the skills to perform growth scans and Doppler assessments for small-for-gestational-age babies.

You will also provide cross-site leadership as the Obstetric Fetal monitoring, lead supporting training, compliance, and quality improvement across Musgrove Park and Yeovil District Hospitals.

This is an obstetrics-only role with no gynaecology commitments, offering the opportunity to work within a highly collaborative and inclusive team delivering near-tertiary level care in a district general hospital setting.

This is a full time (10 PAs), permanent post, working Monday to Thursday, with a 1:12 on call requirement (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) and as per agreed Job Plan.

Interviews for this position are likely to be held on the 12th January 2026 - full details will be released to successfully shortlisted candidates.

Main duties of the job

Our facilities include a modern delivery suite, dedicated obstetric theatre, level 2 neonatal intensive care unit, and a midwife-led birthing centre. We also host a cross-site quality and learning forum and have recently restructured our governance model to support continuous improvement.
