We are seeking a passionate and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary education clinical team within a specialist SEN school in Taunton. You will play a key role in supporting children and young people with complex needs by delivering high-quality, evidence-based speech, language and communication support.
Working collaboratively with education staff, families, and external professionals, you will help embed inclusive communication practices across the school and ensure each pupil is supported to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Practice- Provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, intervention and advice for children and young people with SEN.
- Develop, implement and oversee individualised therapy programmes and integrated support plans.
- Deliver direct and indirect therapy using a range of evidence-based approaches.
- Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) where appropriate.
- Develop resources and materials to support communication and learning across the school.
- Provide consultation, guidance and training to teaching staff and wider school teams.
- Work closely with families, carers and external professionals to ensure joined-up support.
- Contribute a speech and language therapy perspective within multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to service development, operational planning and clinical projects.
- Maintain strong links with Local Authorities, NHS services and partner agencies.
- Support outcome measurement, evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay informed of current research and contribute to evidence-based practice.
- Maintain HCPC registration and engage in regular supervision and CPD.
- Work in line with professional codes of conduct, safeguarding requirements and organisational policies.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion and uphold a safe, respectful working environment.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and relevant data collection.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Experience working with children and young people with SEN, complex needs, SEMH or neurodevelopmental profiles
- Strong communication, assessment and intervention skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience delivering SALT provision in schools or specialist education settings
- Experience with developmental trauma and trauma-informed practice
- Experience delivering staff training and consultation
- Knowledge of outcome measures and service evaluation
- At least 1 year post-qualification experience
- Work in a supportive, collaborative SEN school environment
