- Set up patients and equipment accurately and quickly, understanding basic montage.
- Perform all sleep study modes per policy and procedure manual without supervision.
- Interact appropriately and helpfully with patients to extract and record pertinent observations.
- Conduct ongoing physiological and psychological assessment, integrating new information with prior records.
- Score sleep stages, sleep apnea, hypopnea, nocturnal myoclonus, and recognize EEG and EKG abnormalities and artifacts promptly.
- Apply and adjust CPAP according to procedure manual, promoting maximum patient acceptance.
- Respond quickly to medical emergencies that may arise during sleep studies.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, report shortages early, and calibrate/maintain equipment for accurate testing.
- Clean and disinfect equipment, maintain logbooks timely.
- Improve communication with physicians involved in ordering and interpreting sleep disorder tests.
- Maintain accurate records of sleep studies per ASDC standards.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and correct deficiencies to prevent loss of test time.
- Review current sleep literature and share findings with the lab.
- Represent the department by planning, developing, and presenting educational programs to the public.
- Execute accurate studies for pediatric, special needs, adult, and geriatric populations, applying unique principles for each group.
- Participate in department process improvement program.
- Strictly adhere to Universal Precautions procedures and other duties as required.
- Ongoing development of work skills through in-services, formal education, and on-the-job training.
- Participation in staff meetings, in-services, and documentation reviews as required.
- Assistance in orientation of others and active mentoring participation.
- Analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision.
- Seeking assistance or consultation when appropriate.
- Understanding of hospital and department policies, procedures, and safety issues.

Certificate of Completion from a recognized Polysomnography Training Program. Preferred:
Certification or Registration as a Respiratory Therapist or Polysomnographer, or one year of experience as a polysomnography technician.
