Payroll Director – Martignetti Companies
Join us as the strategic and experienced Payroll Director who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and jumping in to get the work done. This leader will oversee the payroll function and drive its alignment with organizational goals, managing high‑level payroll strategy, ensuring compliance, and overseeing retirement benefits, including 401(k) and deferred compensation plans.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement payroll strategies that align with organizational goals and ensure efficiency.
- Oversee all aspects of payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Manage performance‑based compensation and all retirement benefit programs, ensuring accurate contributions and regulatory compliance.
- Lead initiatives to improve payroll processes and systems, leveraging technology for efficiency and scalability.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and benefits regulations.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and other departments to align payroll operations with broader organizational strategies.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to the payroll team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and analyze payroll metrics to inform decision‑making and identify areas for improvement.
- Address escalated payroll and benefits issues, providing resolution and guidance to the team.
- Prepare and present payroll and benefits reports to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Extensive experience in payroll management, including strategic planning and operational execution.
- Strong knowledge of retirement benefits administration, including 401(k) and deferred compensation plans.
- Expertise in payroll systems and software (e.g., Paychex, Paylocity) and familiarity with integrating payroll with other systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll laws, regulations, tax compliance, unemployment laws, and related requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to all levels of employees.
- Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and payroll/time & labour systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (associate degree with payroll experience considered).
- 7‑10 years of experience leading and managing a payroll department; minimum 10‑12 years of payroll experience required.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
- Experience with Paylocity payroll software a major plus.
- Experience in accounting, payroll budget development, and management.
