The role

As Lead Occupational Hygienist, you’ll be the site's subject matter expert for occupational hygiene, driving the identification, assessment and control of workplace health risks across one of the UK's most complex industrial environments. This is a highly visible leadership role where you'll shape occupational hygiene strategy, influence senior stakeholders and lead a specialist team that helps keep our people safe and healthy every day.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide expert advice, develop robust health risk management programmes and ensure compliance with occupational health legislation and industry standards. In return, you'll gain exposure to a broad range of operations while developing your leadership skills within a purpose-driven organisation supporting critical national infrastructure.

  • Leading and developing the Occupational Hygiene team, providing technical direction and professional leadership.
  • Acting as the site's occupational hygiene subject matter expert, advising senior leaders on health risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Reviewing and approving occupational hygiene assessments, reports and recommendations to ensure technical quality and consistency.
  • Developing and overseeing control strategies for workplace exposure risks and assuring their effectiveness.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational hygiene legislation, standards and company requirements.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week, based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. Limited travel to other sites may be required where there is a business need.

Essential experience of the Lead Occupational Hygienist
  • Significant experience working in occupational hygiene within a complex industrial environment.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and controlling occupational health risks, including chemical, physical and biological hazards.
  • Experience interpreting occupational exposure monitoring data and providing practical, risk-based recommendations.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with occupational health legislation, standards and regulatory requirements.
