An exciting opportunity has arisen for a RN/ODP to join the Tavistock Theatre Day Case Operating Team on a fixed term contract for 1 year, with a possibility of extending to permanent part time hours following fixed term contract. We undertake Day Case Procedures in ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, General surgery, Plastics, Colorectal.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of safe care to patients undergoing day case surgical procedures under local, regional and general anaesthesia. All staff are given the opportunity to work to their full potential within the peri-operative environment utilising all previous knowledge and skills.

The successful candidate will have an interest in Recovery, Anaesthetics and Scrub, and be willing to rotate through the different areas.

Tavistock Theatres work Monday-Friday.

In house training is provided with a facilitator to support you.

*** Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

  • The Theatre staff nurse/ODP can accept responsibility for the safe preparation and organisation of the recovery, scrub, anaesthetics and surgical ward area and is able to participate in all operating department roles and procedures relating to the pre-, peri- and post-operative phases of patient care as directed by the Senior Theatre Sister.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of patients without supervision and incorporate the standards and philosophy of the Theatre Suite. To continuously reassess the patients' needs and re-evaluate care and prioritising planned care appropriately.
  • Be competent in the use of equipment used to monitor and facilitate treatment and care of the patients.
  • You are required to provide safe, quality care for all patients in the Theatre Suite /outpatients.
  • You will work across different theatre specialities as required, including general surgery, ENT, urology, plastics, dermatology, Colorectal and Gynaecology.
  • Recovery duties involve the admission recovery and discharge of patients following general anaesthetic, Local anaesthetic, sedation and blocks,
  • The role will also include pre assessing patients if required and assessing patients notes for suitability for admission to Tavistock Theatre.
  • Working within the outpatient department supporting the medical and surgical clinics may be required at times.
