Job Summary
The spiritual care chaplain (Contingent and Regular) provides the pastoral needs on the spiritual care team for all patients, patient family members, their support persons, and staff. The chaplain offers emotional and spiritual support, counseling, ministry of presence, worship, prayer, and other religious resources as appropriate. They address religious, spiritual, moral, and ethical problems of newly admitted, critically ill, extended, hospice, and palliative care patients and their families, and provide secondary spiritual support and care to staff as needed.
EssentialFunctions
- Functions as a member of a consultative, interdisciplinary work team.
- Provides spiritual/emotional support to patients, families and staff.
- Participates in patient conferencing and interdisciplinary team meetings, ensuring assessment, service provision and documentation align with departmental policy and Unit Care Program standards.
- Engages in continuous quality improvement projects and professional development with the Unit Care team.
- Maintains highest standards of conduct in hospitality, appearance, attitude, respect, and teamwork.
- Participates in department patient care schedules to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Plans, implements and conducts appropriate worship or ceremonial services.
- Supports department office duties and other assigned tasks.
- Bachelor's Degree, Baccalaureate degree awarded by an accredited postsecondary institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Master's degree in Divinity or equivalent degree with theological education as required by endorsing body.
- Satisfactory completion of four (4) units of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
- CRT-Chaplain Board Certification – eligible and complete within 2 years after hire with either:
- Association of Professional Chaplains
- Canadian Association for Spiritual Care
- National Association of Catholic Chaplains
- Neshama Association of Jewish Chaplains
- 1 year of relevant experience as a chaplain.
