Position Summary

The North Carolina Safety Coordinator assists with development, implementation, and leadership of the company environmental health and safety (EH&S) program in North Carolina to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role is responsible for initial and monthly safety training for all North Carolina employees and takes a hands‑on approach and works collaboratively with on‑site management to foster and ensure the safety and livelihood of our team members.

This role takes a leadership role with respect to the employee safety committee and Great Catch employee reporting responses. They are responsible for ensuring the North Carolina facility adheres to corporate safety program policies, leads safety incident responses and investigations, assists with workers compensation claims, maintains safety equipment inventory, performs periodic safety inspections, and monitors hazardous waste removal vendors.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Assisting with annual compliance plans to ensure policies and procedures are followed as necessary to maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, completing all regulatory reporting requirements (Fire, OSHA, EPA).
  • Coordinates notification, handling, storage, transportation and disposal, spill clean‑up and remediation, hazardous waste unit closure activities and fugitive emissions monitoring for the North Carolina plant.
  • Accountable for maintaining documentation of compliance with environmental regulations relating to storm water compliance, air pollution control, wastewater discharge and waste handling and disposal.
  • Driving EHS awareness by demonstrating safe behavior, continuous self‑development and education in areas of environmental, health and safety compliance, industry trends and regulatory developments.
  • Lead New Hire Safety Orientation program as well as monthly safety meetings and training.
  • Leads Corporate Safety Committee and other safety program committees and Great Catch initiatives for North Carolina.
  • Coordinates all incident investigations for the site‑identifying root causes of EHS incidents, developing, and working with leadership to implement corrective actions.
  • Responsible for preparing all accidents and workers’ compensation claim paperwork accurate, timely manner and facilitating appointments with medical doctors for employees, communicating results with relevant internal parties.
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with plant leadership to further drive EHS programs and initiatives.
  • Order PPE supplies as needed and coordinate vendors for safety services such as annual hearing examinations and CPR training.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual inspections internally or coordinate with contractor for fall protection, rigging equipment, overhead cranes, ladders, electrical tools and equipment, etc.
Required Qualifications

Knowledge / Skill / Ability

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing EH&S assessments to identify workplace hazards and determining appropriate control measures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of environmental EH&S principles, concepts, theories, regulations and practices.
  • Extensive Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills apply to safety, production, and business.
  • Practice and promote teamwork within our organization, at all levels.
  • Ability to interact with and engage with diverse personalities through tactful, mature, and flexible communication and relationships.
  • Advanced technical aptitude to understand machinery and systems within a production environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement while adapting to fast paced environment and rapid changes.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks and handle unexpected delays or events while maintaining constant attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations with calmness, logic and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills combined with problem‑solving skills while recognizing and supporting the organization.
