Student Employment - Bridge Program Peer Mentor

Job Summary

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.

Assist the Office of Student Success (OSS) team in providing comprehensive support to students enrolled in OSS cohorts at Salt Lake Community College. By helping students navigate their college experience and make progress towards their degree, we aim to ensure that they have a fulfilling and transformative time at SLCC.

This position is subject to a successful completion of a criminal background check.

• Attend all required trainings to stay up to date on the latest policies, procedures, and resources available to students.
• Facilitate the orientation of new students to Salt Lake Community College to help them feel comfortable and confident in navigating the campus environment.
• When addressing new students, clearly communicate the various services and resources offered at Salt Lake Community College to help them succeed in their academic journey.
• Assist in event planning and execution to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for students.
• Proactively identify and solve common challenges that new students face in their transition to SLCC.
• Coach students one-on-one to navigate the digital systems at SLCC, such as MySLCC, Canvas, Degree Works, MySuccess and the SLCC website.
• Foster a respectful and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
• Respond courteously and promptly to in-person and telephone inquiries about the college in a warm, inclusive manner.

• UTA; buss activation and data entry.
• Processing payments, Bruin Bucks, and replacement IDs.

• Support the creation and implementation of SLCC’s Summer Bridge Program.
• Address questions from students broadly using the "Raise Your Hand" feature on MySuccess.
• Other duties as assigned by the OSS team.

• Effective communication in explaining complex concepts and information.
• Currently enrolled at SLCC as an undergraduate student and in good academic standing (i.e., 2.0 GPA or higher).
• Ability to work with all SLCC students.
• Comfortable in front of groups.
• Registered for 9.0 credit for Fall and Spring semesters.
• Registered for 6.0 credit hours for summer semester.
• Participate in CIP professional development activities.

• Bilingual or Multilingual ability.
• Warm, personable, and flexible; able to put people at ease.
• Prior enrollment in English 1010 with an earned grade of B or higher.
• Familiar with SLCC’s Summer Bridge Program.
