Position: Hydraulics Engineer (Engineer IV)

Hydraulics Engineer (Engineer IV)

One position in Region One (Ogden, UT) and one position in Region Two (Salt Lake City, UT).

As a Hydraulics Engineer, you will provide technical support to internal and external customers in designing and analyzing roadway drainage systems. You will serve as a design lead for the Region on storm drain network design, hydrology, detention/retention basin design, bridge scour evaluation and mitigation, and culvert and open channel flow design. You will provide support to construction and maintenance personnel for roadway drainage issues.

Duties
  • Be a design lead for the Region on roadway drainage design and analysis for successful project delivery.
  • Design and prepare biddable plans, engineer's estimates and special provisions for construction projects.
  • Teach and train others in best practices and use of hydraulic engineering software.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and leadership to junior roadway designers and hydraulic designers.
  • Write specifications and compile advertising plan packages, calculate quantities, volumes, and cost estimates, prepare reports, and participate in public involvement.
  • Work with, coordinate, and supervise consultants, or contract employees, in the performance of the contracted duties.
  • Provide plan set review for drainage on encroachment permit applications.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Have an active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah in accordance with the provision of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.
  • Have at least two (2) years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
  • Have at least two years of roadway drainage design experience.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be familiar with the principles and practices of civil engineering; pertinent laws, rules and regulations.
  • Be familiar with Open Roads Designer and other hydraulic software such as: SRH2D, HEC‑RAS and FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox.
  • Be creative and innovative, exercising sound professional judgment in advanced engineering techniques and theories.
  • Have strong management/leadership skills and professionalism in working with customers.

This position may be filled at the Engineer III level for applicants who do not meet the experience listed for an Engineering Manager I. In order to qualify at the Engineer III level, applicants must be registered as a professional engineer in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58‑22 AND have at least one year post‑PE experience. The Engineer III salary range is $37.46 – $60.77.

This position may be filled at the Engineer II level for those applicants without a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah. In order to qualify for the level II, the applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in engineering and successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination and have completed at least two years of post‑graduate engineering experience. A Master's degree, in a related field, will be considered as the post‑graduate experience.

The Engineer II salary range is $34.39 – $57.57.
