Wildlife Program Coordinator (Species Protection/Wildlife Action Plan)
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to join our Habitat Section leadership team as the Species Protection Account (SPA) and Wildlife Action Plan (WAP) Coordinator.
This position oversees the DWR’s Species Protection Account funding program, which focuses on non-game and native species conservation to prevent Endangered Species Act (ESA) listings. The Coordinator will also lead Wildlife Action Plan implementation efforts in collaboration with DWR staff and external partners. This role is instrumental in strengthening statewide support for conservation by demonstrating the long-term value of SPA and WAP initiatives to stakeholders and partners.
As a leader in the Habitat Section, you will engage in rewarding work that benefits Utah’s wildlife, sportsmen, and citizens for decades to come. The successful candidate will foster productive external partnerships and strengthen “Team Wildlife” through close collaboration with DWR headquarters and regional staff.
Responsibilities- Manage the DWR Species Protection Account funding program to benefit Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN).
- Provide statewide vision and guidance for divisional SPA and WAP priorities.
- Coordinate across DWR sections to implement the updated Wildlife Action Plan.
- Effectively communicate with and assist regional Habitat teams regarding significant SPA and WAP issues.
- Deliver annual reports on project commitments, budgeting, and progress to division and legislative leadership.
- Act as a division leader in coordinating water-related issues for wildlife.
- Assist with workplan development and implementation.
- Partner with coordinators, managers, and regional supervisors to address emerging regional issues and new initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Understanding of state project funding programs, guidelines, budgeting, and administrative processes.
- Proficiency in writing and monitoring contracts and agreements with partner agencies or contractors.
- Understanding of the fundamental principles of natural resource development and human activity impacts wildlife and habitats.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; proficiency in standard office software for document production.
- Knowledge of current species conservation programs, research, and management techniques.
- Proven ability to build trust and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including challenging individuals.
- BS or MS degree in wildlife management, range resource management, or a closely related field.
- Experience in government business process management and basic budget management principles.
- Proven ability to ensure compliance with contract terms and applicable purchasing policies.

Working Conditions- Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
