The Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) is looking for exceptionally driven people to join an awesome warehouse team that provides a large prison with the food and supplies necessary to sustain operations. If you are a highly motivated and a career minded individual who enjoys collaborating with others to improve warehouse, food service and prison operations, please consider joining our team as a Warehouse Specialist in the Division of Prison Operations at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City.
Our Warehouse Specialists are uniquely qualified to operate warehouse equipment like forklifts and reach trucks, while complying with food safety regulations and operating box trucks that require commercial driver license (CDL) certification. If hired you will receive training and certification opportunities at the expense of UDC that can significantly enhance your expertise and career. Candidates selected for employment will be given a conditional offer of hire requiring them to complete and pass a US Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). examination with UDC’s contracted provider prior to starting employment. The DOT physical examination includes a drug test. UDC will pay for the DOT physical examination. Additional requirements to maintain employment include obtaining forklift certification, reach truck certification, Servsafe Manager (food safety) certification and CDL Class B (Air brakes endorsement) driver license certification within the first six months of employment.
These training opportunities and certifications will be provided to you and paid for by UDC.
This job is NOT public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification.
Principal DutiesUnder the direction of a Warehouse Manager, the warehouse specialist ensures effective operations of a UDC central prison warehouse. This includes effective receiving, inspecting, storing, retrieving, staging and delivering food, equipment, materials and supplies. These activities occur at the warehouse and while delivering food/supplies to all prison areas.
Following food safety and OSHA workplace safety regulations, laws, requirements and practices is mandatory. Adherence to all established correctional warehouse and food service standards, policies and procedures is required.
Strict adherence to prison safety and security guidelines, policies and practices while working in and around a correctional institution environment is required.
The ideal candidate for this position has the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
- Clean driving history/record is preferred.
- Warehouse related work experience and training is preferred but not required.
- Previous part time or full time work experience at any employer is preferred.
- Working knowledge of common computer/office equipment and software is preferred.
- Experience with OSHA workplace safety standards, food safety standards and health regulations, standards, and laws is preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are preferred.
