Basic Function

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Kern Community College District is soliciting applications for part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary is $67.00/hour; rate may vary by assignment type and Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE). For more information, refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office.

Representative Duties
  • Teach at Cerro Coso Community College – California City/Tehachapi.
  • Possibly teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, and distance learning.
  • Use multiple teaching methodologies.
  • Maintain subject matter currency.
  • Develop and revise curriculum.
  • Use computer and multimedia technology.
  • Participate collegially in departmental, college and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language (can be completed concurrently during the first year).
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in one of the majors above and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language (can be completed concurrently during the first two years).
  • OR Possession of a full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language.
  • OR Equivalent qualifications (education, experience, or other accomplishments). Submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents.
  • AND Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in a diverse environment.
  • Work effectively with students of varied skills, motivations, and goals.
  • Develop curriculum in various modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Be knowledgeable about computers and open to new technologies.
  • Commit to the California community college mission.
