The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a full-time Locum Consultant Oral Surgeon. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team of supportive consultants providing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Services to the County of Shropshire and a substantial part of the adjacent Welsh County of Powys.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Oral Surgeon. This is a full-time post to join our established clinical team who cover both Telford & Shrewsbury Hospitals. Main clinical duties include:
- General dentoalveolar work as part of service provision requirements.
- Undertaking outpatient clinics at both hospitals with a main inpatient base and dedicated Head and Neck ward at Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
- Undertaking day-case operating in the newly opened elective hub at the Royal Princess Hospital, Telford.
- Developing enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of a varying range of dentoalveolar conditions; assisting with treatment planning and treatment of multi-disciplinary cases.
- Working effectively within a multi-professional team.
- Delighting clinical and quality targets agreed nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
- Following patients throughout their clinical pathways.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. The Trust's catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, which are located 20 minutes' drive apart.
Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.
It covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.
- FDS (Oral Surgery or equivalent)
- Member in Oral Surgery (MOralSurg) or equivalent
- Possession of both a medical degree and Dental degree from UK recognised institutions
- Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) or equivalent
- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Dental Council (GDC)
- Eligible for consideration for a consultant appointment by an Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC); candidates must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine and/or Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine/Medicine. Applications from candidates within six months of achieving Specialist Registration through either the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or the Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) are welcome.
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Oral Surgery or equivalent
- Successful completion of an SAC-recommended and approved 5-year minimum training programme in Oral Surgery, or within 6 months of completion
- 5 years of training within the NHS required for the specialty with evidence of validated surgical logbooks
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
