About The Role
The Employment and Skills Mentor plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals accessing the Youth Hub and employability programmes at Telford College to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes. Working directly with both young people and adults, the postholder will provide tailored support to help participants overcome barriers, develop employability skills, and progress into employment, education, or training.
This varied role combines participant recruitment, one-to-one employability mentoring, group session delivery, and progression tracking. The postholder will build positive relationships with participants, delivering engaging support programmes and outreach activities that encourage participation, confidence, and personal development.
The role requires a proactive and target-focused approach, ensuring that all activities contribute to the successful achievement of contractual key performance indicators (KPIs) and performance targets. Through effective engagement, support, and monitoring, the Employment and Skills Mentor will play a key role in helping participants achieve their goals and secure positive progression outcomes.
This role is Fixed Term until 27/08/2027.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a caseload of participants, maintaining regular contact to drive engagement and progression
- Deliver regular structured one-to-one sessions to support participants into employment, education or training
- Deliver practical employability support
- Ensure all participants gain an improved understanding of recruitment processes and labour market opportunities
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to provide wraparound support
- Ensure all participants are linked to appropriate support services where required
- Deliver outreach activity across the community, including targeted areas and priority groups
- Proactively engage with employers, Jobcentre Plus and partners
- Support delivery of a structured timetable of activity, including workshops, job clubs and partner sessions
- Gather participant feedback and contribute to insight surveys at key stages of the programme
- Experience of working in employability, recruitment or progression-focused roles
- Experience supporting individuals into employment, education or training outcomes
- Experience delivering one-to-one support/mentoring
- Experience managing a caseload and working to targets/KPIs
- Experience delivering group sessions, workshops or job clubs
- Experience working with individuals facing barriers to employment
- Experience of outreach/community-based engagement
- Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Relevant qualification in employability, advice and guidance or similar or a willingness to undertake
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport
