About the Role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed Outdoor Education Tutor to create memorable learning experiences beyond the classroom, inspiring pupils with autism and additional needs through practical, hands‑on learning.

What you will be doing
  • Deliver engaging outdoor learning programmes including Forest School, horticulture and enrichment activities.
  • Lead pupils towards recognised accreditations such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, John Muir Award and AQA Unit Awards.
  • Plan and support educational visits, outdoor adventures and community‑based learning opportunities.
  • Develop inspiring outdoor learning environments and horticulture projects that promote wellbeing, enterprise and preparation for adulthood.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging communication, confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and risk assessment while ensuring activities are safe, enjoyable and accessible.
Who you will bring
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly autism.
  • Experience delivering outdoor learning, enrichment or practical education activities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and educational risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to motivate and inspire pupils.
  • A flexible, positive and resilient approach with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Forest School experience (desirable).
  • Driving licence.

Options Higford is a specialist school set in 28 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside, offering a high‑quality, holistic education for up to 60 autistic students with associated behavioural needs. Class groups have five students with at least 1:1 staffing, and personalised curriculums are tailored to each student’s individual needs.
