A global Tier 1 Automotive manufacturer in the Telford area is looking for a skilled Controls & Automation Engineer with experience in robotics, AMRs, and industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and adaptable engineer with a strong technical background within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Operating within a highly automated production facility, you will report to the Engineering Manager and provide effective support, maintenance, and continuous improvement across robotic and automated manufacturing systems, amongst other responsibilities.
This is a fantastic opportunity with a multi‑national automotive company that supplies some of the biggest OEMs in the industry. The engineering department is currently operating on a days shift, however, this may move to a double days shift as the team expands.
Controls & Automation Engineer
Location:Telford
Salary:£59,000 - £67,000
Shift:Days (Potential to move to Double Days)
Hours:37.5 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:- Carry out fault finding, programming, and continuous improvement activities on automated manufacturing systems.
- Support and maintain AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), robotic cells, conveyors, and associated automation equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve PLC, HMI, sensor, servo drive, and network communication faults.
- Support production by responding quickly to automation breakdowns and minimising downtime.
- Complete all maintenance documentation and engineering reports accurately and consistently.
- Update automation records, backups, and maintenance schedules following completed work.
- Work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Support installation and commissioning activities for new robotics and automation projects.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, PLC logic, and technical drawings.
- Plan work effectively by prioritising reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times.
- Apprentice or university trained with a relevant electrical, controls, or automation engineering qualification.
- Experience working with industrial robotics and automated production systems.
- Strong electrical and controls fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with PLC systems such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Mitsubishi.
- Knowledge of AMRs, robotic integration, and industrial communication networks.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and technical engineering drawings.
- Experience operating within a fast‑paced manufacturing or automotive environment.
- Understanding of health & safety requirements associated with automated machinery.
