Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Advanced practice is delivered by experienced registered health and care professionals working with high autonomy and complex decision‑making, underpinned by master's level education across the four pillars of practice: clinical care, leadership and management, education, and research, alongside demonstration of specialist competence.

An Advanced Clinical Practitioner works in partnership with children, young people, families, and carers, managing complex needs across settings to improve experiences and outcomes through innovative, evidence‑based practice. Practitioners assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe, and refer where specialist input is required.

Within CAMHS, the Advanced Practitioner is expected to hold a master's level qualification including Advanced Mental Health Assessment and Non‑Medical Prescribing; maintain continuous professional development through supervision and appraisal; provide autonomous clinical assessment and treatment addressing both physical and mental health needs; support quality improvement initiatives; deliver advanced clinical practice to improve outcomes; provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and effective care;

support workforce development through education and training; and lead service development, evaluation, and audit to improve quality and safety of care.

Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
  • Professional regulated core qualification with the NMC
EXPERIENCE
  • Extensive experience in a management/clinical/practitioner leadership role within mental health setting
  • High level of clinical expertise in working with people's mental health.
  • Experience in assessing, formulating and managing risk for people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties/LD
  • Qualifications in Project Management and/or Quality improvement
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of current national agenda relating to the NHS, social care sector, and mental health/LD and CAMHS services
  • Awareness of clinical governance practices
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Extensive knowledge and application in practice of leading MDTs, professional meetings, MHA, CPA
